Ascension Eagles win first round of Worlds Tour
Ascension Eagles – England’s endorsed team for the Cheerleading World Championships -- have landed safely in the USA.

Just 36 hours after setting foot on American soil, Newham’s Eagles entered the US Challenge National Championship, part of the Champion Spirit Group Competition Tour.
“We entered the US Challenge to help prepare our team for the World Championship next weekend,” said Angela Brown, Head Coach and Choreographer for the Eagles. “Some of the girls on our team have very little competition experience, and this group of our Senior girls have not competed together before. We needed to put them under competition pressure conditions to see how they could perform.”
After a solid performance, Ascension Eagles won first place in their division. They were delighted, but there was more to come.
Within every competition routine across all divisions, teams were scored on their jumps, tumbling and stunts. At the end of the day, the judges tabulated the top scores in each of these categories. Ascension Eagles were astounded when the judges announced that they had won best overall “Champion Jumps,” “Champion Stunts,” and “Champion Tumbling.”
In addition, they won “Champion Choreography” for best choreographed routine. “When we won this award, the team went wild. That’s a credit to our coach, Angela Brown. She is Britain’s best choreographer, and over the past few years has been ranked in the top five percent of cheer choreographers worldwide,” said team member Leonie Linton. “We are all very proud of her and were so excited when this award was announced.”
The final award of the day was overall, all-round Grand Champion.

Ascension Eagles were ecstatic when they went forward to claim their six foot tall trophy.
Assistant Coach Patrick Asante said, “We never expected to win this big! The team really put their hearts into this routine and impressed the judges and the crowd. It was a tremendous result and made a great start to our World tour.”
Ascension Eagles compete at Disney Wide World of Sport April 21st-22nd. Over 70 top International teams and America’s top 200 cheer teams will compete for World titles. |
