The SaveSofie campaign has taken hold of the Ascension Eagles family since we first found out about it 6 weeks ago. In the first instance, we were able to donate £500,00 through our hugely successful fashion walk fundraiser in which we celebrated our 21st season and revealed our new uniform. Since that time, and through the hard work of Angela Green and Paula Brown we have been able to raise a further £550.00 by setting up the SaveSofie raffle.
Initially, they intended to use a number AEC's valuable cheer items, including a Topgun large co-ed sports bra, to entice people to buy tickets and support the cause. But as news about the campaign gained momentum through social networking and the Daily Mail, they were contacted by a number of companies who wanted to contribute to the cause. BigG Tumbling donated their newest athlete vest, Holly's Bows supplied a beautiful bow-quet (excuse the pun), Excel Cheer gave an Nfinity bow, water bottle and mini-bag as well as the much sought after Rock Your Hair spray, and the gifts were completed with 10 Team England pins from CheerpinsUK. These items, along with AEC's, sent the desire for tickets into a frenzy with cheerleaders and family members from all over the country contacting the gym to request tickets.
The money raised from the raffle takes AEC's donation to the SaveSofie campaign to over £1,000. We're so proud to be involved in this cause and working towards the treatment that Sofie so desperately needs. For those who are not aware, Sofie Lynott is suffering from a rare, and incredibly aggressive form of Cancer known as Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour. Without further treatment Sofie's future is far from certain. Her family have set up a GoFundMe page in the hope they can raise a staggering £40,000 so they can take Sofie to Germany where she can be treated with the expertise her case requires.
At time of writing Sofie's go fund me page stands at £18,438, 46% of the desired target. There is still so much that needs to be raised, but remember: all donations help! From those of us at AEC: staff, athletes, friends and extended family, we implore you to donate and make a difference.

A warm thank you to Excel Cheer, Holly's Bows, BigG Tumbling and Cheerpins Uk for donating items for the raffle.
