Talent Central Schools Showcase- March 2019
March is always a great month because it means that Talent Central Cheer and Dance gets to deliver its second Schools Cheerleading Showcase of the academic year! Our group of dedicated coaches and their 16 schools returned to the ExCel centre on March 22nd with upgraded routines, better skills and an increased desire to succeed.
Cheerleading is fun as well as physically demanding; it’s a great outlet for young people that breaks up the mental strain of being in the classroom. The athletes also learn the value of leadership, teamwork, and confidence, while also instilling positive self-value and esteem. In Newham, where obesity rates are high, and lethargy is commonplace, we believe we are having a positive impact on the young people we interact with.
Our impact isn’t just on the individual; it’s about the community. The Talent Central Showcase allows young people from different areas in Newham to socialise with each other in a safe environment and just have fun- whether it be watching and cheering each other on, or taking part in the danceathon at the end!
What’s always great about the showcases is the attendance from parents and members of staff from the athletes’ schools. Practices take place once a week, but the impression it makes on the young people is such that their parents take time of work to watch them perform.; it’s a real pleasure to see them watching their children showcase all they’ve learned.
All in all, athletes, their parents, and teachers go home happy and looking forward to the next competition!
