AEC Hamper Making with Bonny Downs Food Bank

On Tuesday 23rd November 2021, Ascension Eagle athletes and family members supported a local community outreach project, the Bonny Downs food bank, in putting together Christmas Hampers. Over the weeks previous, AEC collected toiletries, food essentials and ‘Christmassy’ treats so they could be put together into hampers that will be distributed to some of Newham’s more vulnerable families just before Christmas.

Gemma Wooster, of the Bonny Downs Food Bank said:

‘Having the children and their families from AEC offer to get involved with some of our work in Bonny Downs was exactly what we needed. The hamper packing and present wrapping was a perfect opportunity to join forces, to get ready for Christmas, and to refocus ourselves after 2 years of uncertainty. Thank you Ascension Eagles for wanting to support your local community when it is needed the most. Happy Christmas and we will definitely like to come together again in the New Year for more joint efforts!’

For AEC Director, Angela Green, it was all about seeing athletes and their parents working together as part of a community effort. She said:

‘It’s so wonderful to see AEC athletes and their parents working with other groups, like the Bonny Downs project, and helping to make a real difference for those in need this Christmas.’

It was a pleasure for AEC to be able to work with Bonny Downs again; we’re proud to be part of the fantastic work that they are doing in Newham and can’t wait for the next event!
